National Recognition for Taylor
Bridgend College learner, Taylor Saunders, has recently been awarded the Breakthrough Award at the Prince’s Trust Awards 2018. Each young person who has been nominated for a Prince’s Trust Award has a unique story.
Taylor had a difficult upbringing and suffered from PTSD, depression and anxiety during her teenage years. She was encouraged to join the Prince’s Trust at 19 and gradually grew in confidence. Speaking about the programme, Taylor said,
“I was very anxious on the first week, especially as I was the oldest one there and the only girl on the programme, but the second week was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I made friends, tried every challenge and was so chuffed with what I achieved.
“The Prince’s Trust made me push myself when I didn’t think I could. It also made me believe in myself; and now I have a new life and a new future!”
Ian Stuart, CEO of HSBC commended Taylor bay saying,
“The HSBC UK Breakthrough Award recognises the outstanding progress of young people who have overcome extraordinary challenges to develop new skills and reach their potential. Taylor is the incredibly worthy winner of this year’s award. Congratulations Taylor.”
Taylor is now studying for a Level 2 NVQ Child Care Apprenticeship at a children’s charity and is also a volunteer at a children’s hospice.
